Chung Won Institute of Taekwondo – The Art of the Sword

At Chung Won Institute of Taekwondo, you will also find Haidong Gumdo, which is the ancient Korean Martial Art of the Sword. It draws from battlefield tactics and techniques to build a curriculum for mental, physical and spiritual development. Students learn forms, step drills, sitting and moving meditation, as well as bamboo and straw cutting. Haidong Gumdo is not confrontational. There is no combative sparring, although some combinations are practiced with partners. Powerful, complex and beautiful, Gumdo is a wonderful style which can be pursued throughout your life.

Haidong Gumdo is perfect for people of any age. Classes and practice are very low impact and are suitable for anyone. Skills and fitness levels are challenged steadily and at your own pace. This is also an excellent complement to other martial art styles, as it is practiced up through the senior ages. After just a few weeks of training, you should notice improvement in your energy levels, flexibility and overall health. The student will enhance alertness and responsiveness, gain patience, learn how to relax, be able to concentrate better, remain focused, strengthen self-control and discipline, as well as gain leadership skills.
